Shaping perceptions

For anyone wanting to understand the power of public relations in shaping perceptions about a product, company or issue, this is a must read. And an entertaining one, too. Bob Leaf is one of those brilliant practitioners who is also an astute businessman and an inspirational leader. He was there at the creation of Burson-Marsteller's enduring global network in Europe, Asia, Australia and the Americas and his stories and illustrative anecdotes make this an important contribution to the evolving profession of public relations. Highly recommended.

Final book in a great saga

The Chaos curse is the final book in a 5 book series, all of which are great. Cadderly and friends must face an evil in which they never thought they would have to face. They must fight together, facing new enemies, as well as old. This is a great series, and some of these characters make an appearence in Salvatore's other books containing Drizzt. I recommend these books to anyone into fantasy, or if you are just a fan of Salvatore, this book, as well as the others in the series, are a must! The ending of this book is a little sad, so be forewarned, but if you read the later books containing Drizzt, everything comes out to be alright.

This whole series has been a new and amazing idea for me. It delves into the world of priests, unlike all of the other R.A.Salvatore themes. The Chaos Curse is a must have for all R.A.Salvatore readers.

Okay conclusion to interesting series

... there are some interesting elements here. As hinted at in some of the previous novels of the series, Cadderly has something a reformer attitude. He believes his order has strayed away from its tenets and that it is too consumed with ritual and dusty tomes rather than helping people etc... Cadderly's religious order is headed up by Dean Thobiscus who, in Cadderly's view, personifies the ritualistic and power politics that have corrupted the order. This conflict had potential to be developed more, but this did not happen.
There was one improvement over the previous book in the series. Cadderly finally faces a foe that he finds difficult to combat. Obviously, I don't want to reveal who this last villain is but it was reasonably done. There is also some genuine risk involved here as Cadderly's lover, Danica, is captured. Where is the setting for this confrontation? The Edificant Library which has been overcome by the forces of darkness. Also, he faces an important choice near the end; to follow the calling of his God completely or continue his relationship with Danica.

A great philosophical introduction
By civilized discontent
I found this book to be a helpful text with under-graduate audiences in mind. That said, it is well-written and, I believe, accessible to the layman. It is written in straightforward prose with helpful sections on further reading at the end of each chapter. The author gently guides the reader through an introductory look at the philosophical implications of the not-self doctrine, Karma, the four noble truths, the eightfold path and more. Whilst this is a sympathetic look at Theravada Buddhism it is by no means dogmatic. Ultimately the reader is left with an academic introduction which tempts the reader at the end with the empirical challenge to experiment with the Buddha's words as a final means of investigating the practical worth of this ancient philosophy. Simple yet highly recommended reading. Thank you Mr Gowans.

Excellent summary of the vast writings of the Thervadans

This book was a welcome addition to my collection of Buddhist literature. It really helped me see a new angle on things and shake of the literalist dogma I had taken from the Thervadan writings I had read. It helped me see past to orthodoxy built around Zen. Finally, it allowed me to see Chan's preservation of the Middle Way, and thus further pursue their vehicles for use in my practice.
In addition, Archie is NOT a Buddhist nor a practicioner of Buddhist ways. He offers a refeshing view of a very misunderstood, simple and helpful tool for building a life filled with joy.

About the Author
Lewis Carroll was the pen name of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, an English writer, mathematician, Anglican deacon, and photographer. Best known for his classics Alice s Adventures in Wonderland, Through the Looking Glass, and Jabberwocky, Carroll was also an accomplished inventor who created an early version of what is today known as Scrabble. The publication of Alice s Adventures in Wonderland in 1865 brought Carroll a certain level of fame, although he continued to supplement his income through his work as a mathematics tutor at Christ Church, Oxford College. Carroll s whimsical characters and nonsensical verse resonated with Victorian-era readers, and his books continue to be enjoyed by numerous modern societies dedicated to his promoting his works.

Sir John Tenniel briefly attended the Royal Academy Schools, but for the most part he was a self taught artist. His illustrations appeared regularly in Punch, but it was the Alice books that confirmed his international reputation as an illustrator. Tenniel was knighted in 1893.

All the Free Font Indexes 1-3 contain a cd in back of the book with all the free fonts on it. They are basically a few essays up front about the designers and/or the free type movement and then a type specimen book to illustrate the type included on the cd. Well worth every penny. There are some excellent typefaces included in each book (I have all three) with generous user licenses.
